The venerable sayadaw U Nanujjotābhivaṃsa was born in 1955, became a novice at the age of ten and a monk at the age of 20. He studied under the guidance of the famous sayadaw U Janakābhivaṃsa from Mahagandayone in Amarapura. At the age of 23, he began practicing meditation at the Mahasi Sāsana Yeiktha in Yangon. After his studies, at the age of 31, he moved there and in 1991 accompanyied Sayadaw U Paṇḍita  when he founded his new meditation centre Shwe Taung Gon Paṇḍitārāma. Sayadaw U Nanujjota then spent ten years at the Meditation Centre Saraṇīya Dhamma in Manchester between 1998 and 2009. That year he left England to go to Kathmandu, Nepal, to run the International Buddhist Meditation Centre (IBMC). He currently resides at the Shwe Taung Gon Meditation Centre Paṇḍitārāma in Yangon where he is Nāyaka Sayadaw.
