The Abhidhamma is the third part of the Pali canon (the scriptures of the Theravada), after the code of discipline and the sermons. It represents a synthesis and systematisation of the Buddha’s teaching from the perspective of what really exists, the ultimate realities beyond the concept. It offers a very subtle description of the functioning of the mind and its interaction with the body. The meditator will recognize in this treatise on Buddhist psychology written more than 2000 years ago what he experiences today in his meditation.
In accordance with the tradition, the meditators take refuge in the Buddha, the Dhamma and the Sangha; they undertake the 9 moral precepts, which include abstaining from taking solid food after midday. The retreat is conducted in silence.
